Cats I’ve Met

I love cats, and sometimes I meet cats briefly and document the experience.

Today it’s at the front of my mind because I’m at a cabin in East Texas to relax and write puzzles, and I met a friendly stray here. The cabin I’m in is named Andrew (after a grandfather of a staff member) and I think that’s a fine name for him.

I shared my breakfast, giving him buttery bits of plain omelette. He’s currently hanging out and soliciting neck scratches as I type this on my phone.

Another time I met cats was when I took my first trip from Texas to Minnesota on I-35. Just north of the Texas/Oklahoma border, there was a family of feral cats living at the welcome center. Having to make do with what was nearby, I fed them some vending machine jerky.

Yet another time, while driving US 180 a few counties west from where I live, there were a batch of kittens at a roadside picnic area. They were hesitant, but I got to pet a few. Their mom watched cautiously from behind a fence nearby. I stopped by the local Walmart and got some treats for them, which they happily accepted to supplement the kibble someone else left for them.
