Projects/Now

In the grand tradition of an IndieWeb Now Page, here’s what I’m working on at the moment.

Last updated on January 25, 2023.

Active Work

Health

Adjusting to new medications and treating my type 2 diabetes and ADHD for the first time.

Puzzled Pint

I’m working on a set of puzzles for Puzzled Pint, theme and date TBA.

Puzzle Books

I’m wrapping up editing of my 8th puzzle book for Skyhorse Publishing and American Mensa. I’ve begun planning and writing a 9th book in the series and anticipate signing to write a 10th book soon.

This Site

Originally I created this site as a placeholder to deal with some weird behavior by WordPress multisite, but now I’ve chosen to start using this blog/site as a breeding ground for other one-off ideas of mine. Specifically, things related to IndieWeb, the Friend Mall, and my zero waste braindump for Fort Worth.

Simmering Work

Dave’s Mapper

I’m still accepting new tiles but need to catch up on adding them to the site. I also have plans to move the remaining tiles out of the git repo now that I know how, and further plans to move them into a CDN of some sort.

The Griddle

I plan to start posting more regularly soon. I would like to do a 2023 Puzzle Advent Calendar.

Dave Goes the Distance Store

I have some new stickers I need to photograph and list, but it hasn’t been a priority lately and I need to organize and inventory my stock.

Interst8

I have some new levels to add but not much else.

Brainstorming

Puzzle Archive

I’m becoming concerned with the potential for the puzzle sites I know and love to disappear or become non-functional. I want to start a non-profit of some sort to archive puzzle content and preserve it in a way that makes it accessible for future generations. Some specific targets:

  • Robert Abbott’s logic mazes, which need to be fixed to remove or change how sound effects are played, as the exception being thrown means the interactive bits no longer function.
  • The ‘Discord Puzzle Archive’ on the Cracking the Cryptic server, which could theoretically disappear if Discord ever went belly-up or nerfed some of the post history.
  • Various sites dedicated to puzzle hunts over the years that are no longer maintained.

I am decent with the computer/doing the preservation bits. Would need help getting funding and managing it.
