Spice Rack

I have a small basket of cooking amenities that I take when renting a cabin. It has a small spice rack I made from some glass vials and a makeup organizer. There’s a small pepper mill with mixed peppercorns, and I keep a separate jar of pink Himalayan salt, and there are four vials. I had three filled with pumpkin spice, smoked paprika, and garlic powder, and I took to the Fediverse to ask for others’ suggested load-outs. I ended up taking the suggestion of cumin for the fourth vial, but there is plenty of food for thought in the responses.

  • Jacky said he loves cumin, and garlic powder and chili powder would be good amendments.
  • Big Jesus Trashcan said garlic, chili powder, Italian blend, ginger & cinnamon
  • _cr0_tab said garam masala, five spice, pumpkin spice, and dried herbs (marjoram, oregano, thyme, sage, rosemary)
  • lord bowlich said garlic, cumin, chili powder, oregano

What I Used

On my recent trip, here’s what I used:

  • The items I got at the farmers market lent themselves to Tex-Mex, so I used garlic, cumin, and smoked paprika.
  • I had some single serving packets of chai latte and matcha latte that I wanted to use up, so I didn’t use the pumpkin spice for beverages this time.
  • I planned to put pumpkin spice in oatmeal, but I ended up doing a savory breakfast instead of sweet and did not use the oats I brought, nor the pumpkin spice there.

I still think I like most of my current loadout, but I could be swayed to change it. I think I may do a blend of chipotle with the smoked paprika as I would like more heat next time.
